Vantage reconstructs the spatial context of video recordings.

Vantage is a tool designed for fact-checkers, investigative journalists, and Open Source Intelligence practitioners – particularly those working independently or in smaller teams.

The platform combines photomatching with support for geospatial data, videos and images, allowing users to verify content, reconstruct events and situate evidence.

By projecting these elements onto 3D environments, Vantage facilitates accurate scene reconstructions, spatial analysis, and the comparison of multiple viewpoints within a unified framework:

  1. It starts by defining a location, which generates a 3D environment using OpenStreetMap data. Alternatively, users can import their own 3D scenes.
  2. Videos and images are then integrated and aligned by positioning cameras to match real-world perspectives.
  3. A timeline allows to add a temporal context, organizing and visualizing events as they unfold.

In addition to reconstructing the scene, Vantage integrates spatial analysis with presentation.

Users can craft stories by organizing media into coherent sequences, selecting perspectives, and contextualising the presentation with storytelling elements.

Vantage supports interactive exploration, allowing the audience to interact directly with scenes for deeper exploration.

Funded by Prototype Fund, Vantage is open-source and freely accessible, ensuring that investigative tools are within reach for everyone.
